Yellow Jackets Finish Fifth at HCAC Tournament
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Sophomore Mike Ross and freshman Hurst Talbott tied for a team-best 78 as the Defiance College men’s golf team shot 321 to end the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in fifth place.
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Sophomore Mike Ross and freshman Hurst Talbott tied for a team-best 78 as the Defiance College men's golf team shot 321 to end the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in fifth place.
Defiance shot a team score of 1287 (320-324-322-321) over 72 holes.
Ross finished the tournament tied for 20th after posting a four-round total of 320 (75-85-82-78). Talbott placed 32nd in the field with a combined score of 344 (89-86-91-78).
Defiance senior Matt Gehring provided a final-round 81 for the Yellow Jackets, and finished the tournament tied for 18th. Gehring carded a four-day total of 316 (80-79-76-81). Senior Jared James shot 84 in the final round, and sophomore Josh DeGroff ended the round with a score of 86. James shot 250 (85-81-84) after playing in three rounds, and DeGroff finished with a score of 255 (86-83-86) for three rounds.
Transylvania won the team title with a 72-hole total of 1164. Transylvania's Justin Tereshko won medalist honors with a score of 279.
Following the tournament, Defiance senior Brian Jones was named to the HCAC All-Sportsmanship team.
With the conclusion of the championship, the season ends for the Yellow Jackets. The men's golf team will return to the course in the fall.
