Ross Leads Yellow Jackets at MSJ Invitational
NORTH BEND, Ohio – Sophomore Mike Ross led the Defiance College men’s golf team at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational held on Saturday and Sunday at Aston Oaks Golf Club.
NORTH BEND, Ohio – Sophomore Mike Ross led the Defiance College men's golf team at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational held on Saturday and Sunday at Aston Oaks Golf Club. Ross shot a two-day total of 164 as the Jackets finished in 10th place.
Ross shot a 75 on day one of the tournament to provide the Yellow Jackets with their lowest round over the two days. He followed it up with an 89 for the second round to finish 45th overall. As a team, Defiance posted a score of 672 (329-343).
Senior Brian Jones finished 50th with a two-day score of 166. Jones posted an 87 on day one and improved by eight strokes in round two with a score of 79. Freshman Hurst Talbott shot 170 (81-89) and senior Matt Gehring came in with a total of 178 (92-86). Senior Jared James rounded out the varsity scoring with a score of 182 (86-96). Sophomore Josh DeGroff played as an individual and shot 167 (84-83) for the Yellow Jackets.
Transylvania University took the team title with a score of 587 (296-291). Stephen Montgomery won medalist honors for Transylvania with a score of 140 (69-71).
Defiance will return to the links on Saturday, March 31 when it travels to Hanover, Indiana for the Hanover Invitational. Tee times start at 11:00 am on Saturday and 10:00 am on Sunday.
