DC Men Take Sixth at HCAC Men’s Golf Championship
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The 2010 season came to a close for the Defiance College men’s golf team on Sunday with the completion of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Kettenring Country Club.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The 2010 season came to a close for the Defiance College men's golf team on Sunday with the completion of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Kettenring Country Club. The Jackets ended in sixth place, while Jace Neal finished ninth in the individual standings.
Neal shot an 81 on Sunday and tied for ninth, just one position and three strokes outside of earning All-HCAC honors with his final of 309. Brian Jones shot an 82 on Sunday to end in 22nd with a 320, while Jared James and Alex Goecke finished in 33rd and 34th.
Hunter Frazier of Transylvania claimed the individual crown with a 295 and was followed in the standings by teammates Matthew Martin (300), Justin Tereshko (300) and Stephen Montgomery (304), while Franklin's Tom Moore (304) closed out the top-five performers.
Transylvania easily won the team championship with a four-round score of 1,192 to finish 38 shots in front of Franklin (1,230) and 58 ahead of Hanover and MSJ (1,250). Anderson finished in sixth (1,282), with DC (1,316), Rose-Hulman (1,331) and Manchester (1,333) rounding out the standings.
The young Yellow Jacket squad will look to continue its climb up the HCAC ladder in 2010-2011, as DC is poised to return all but one golfer from this year's squad. Senior Greg Vogt will be the lone departure from the roster, as this weekend marked the end of his career with Defiance.
