Yellow Jacket Golfers Claim Manchester Invite Title
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – The 2009 fall season ended on a high note for the Defiance College men’s golf team, after the Jackets won the team championship on Saturday at the Manchester Fall Invitational.
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – The 2009 fall season ended on a high note for the Defiance College men's golf team, after the Jackets won the team championship on Saturday at the Manchester Fall Invitational.
Defiance finished the opening round with a 307 and one shot back of Franklin for first place in the team standings. DC then capitalized on a 323 from the Grizzlies in the second round by carding a 314 to win the team title with a 621.
Defiance edged Franklin (629) by eight shots in the standings, with Capital (635), Anderson (644) and Manchester (691) rounding out the field in the two-round event.
Brian Jones ended second in the individual standings after firing a tournament-best 68 on the opening 18 holes. Jones finished with a 148 to end three strokes back of individual medalist Adlai Deisler of Indiana Wesleyan.
Conor Totzke shot a 153 to end in a tie for seventh, while Jace Neal (159) finished in 15th, Jared James (165) ended in 26th, Alex Goecke (166) took 28th and Matt Gehring (175) finished 35th.
The event was the final tournament of the fall season for Defiance. The Jackets are scheduled to open their spring season on April 10 and 11 with the DC Spring Invitational at Kettenring Country Club.
