Men’s basketball scores 99 points in first victory of 2020
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s basketball team got back to its winning ways on Wednesday night with a 99-83 triumph over the visiting Manchester University Spartans in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center.

With the victory, Defiance improves to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the HCAC. Manchester falls to 5-9 overall, including 3-4 in conference play.
"Just to get a win tonight was huge," DC head coach Scott Cutter said. "I'm really proud of our guys for stepping up."
The 99 points scored is the most by the Yellow Jackets since Nov. 15, 2017 when they beat Ohio Mid-Western College, 103-77.
Defiance never trailed on Wednesday and built a 51-36 lead at halftime. The Yellow Jackets upped their advantage to 76-50 with 13 minutes remaining before the Spartans got to within 89-78 with 5:32 to go.
DC shot the ball exceptionally well, making 36 of 63 (57.1 percent) from the field, including half of its 26 three-point attempts and all 14 of its free throws. Defiance finished with a 39-28 edge in rebounds and its bench outscored MU's 36-11.
Sean Tyson (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial) led the winners with a season- and game-high 25 points, seven rebounds and a game-best six assists while freshman David Perkins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) came off the bench to post career highs of 18 points, four assists and two blocked shots to go along with eight boards. Freshmen Owen Hiegel (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Chase Glock (Stryker, Ohio/Stryker) chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Jackets host an HCAC contest this Saturday at 3 p.m. against Mount St. Joseph University. The game follows the 1 p.m. women's matchup between DC and Mount St. Joseph.
