Edwards and Schomaeker Named D3hoops.com All-Region

Defiance was one of two schools in the region to have multiple players named All-Region. Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The All-American teams will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's and women's championships.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets ended the 2014-15 season with a 22-7 overall record, including finishing a perfect 15-0 at home, and were tied for first in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-4 mark. DC also claimed its third HCAC Tournament Title to advance to the NCAA National Tournament where the Jackets upset defending national champion and No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Edwards started all 29 games this past season and led the team in scoring at 21.0 points per game. He led the team and the HCAC in points scored (610) and was second in the conference in points per game. Edwards also led the team in field goals made (199), field goal attempts (453), three-point attempts (161), free-throws made (151), free-throw attempts (178) and was second in both rebounding (5.2 rpg.) and blocked shots (26). He scored in double figures in all but two games this past season, including 12 games of 20 or more points and four games of 30 or more points. In addition to earning All-Region accolades, Edwards has also earned first-team All-HCAC honors as well as being named the 2014-15 HCAC Player of the Year.
In three seasons and 76 career games, Edwards surpassed the 1,000-point plateau, becoming the 47th player in program history to do so and currently ranks 25th on the all-time scoring list with 1,224 points. He ends his career with a 43.9 lifetime shooting percentage (404-of-920), 35.3 percent (118-of-334) from three-point range and 79.3 percent (298-of-376) at the free-throw line. In addition, Edwards recorded 344 rebounds (4.5 rpg.), 123 assists, 64 blocks and 36 steals.
Schomaeker also had a standout senior season finishing second in scoring at 15.1 ppg. while shooting 45.6 percent (159-of-349) from the floor, 45.6 percent (70-of-159) from behind the arc and 86.4 percent (51-of-59) at the charity stripe. He led the team, and was second in the HCAC, in assists with 123 and also finished amongst the team leaders in rebounding (3.9 rpg.) and steals (34). He ranked second in the HCAC in three-pointers made (70), three-point percentage (44.0 percent), fourth in points scored (439), fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2,3) and sixth in steals (34). Shomaeker scored in double figures in 22 games, including five games of 20 or more points and one game with over 30 points. He also recorded three games of 10 or more assists. Already this season, Schomaeker was named first-team All-HCAC and was a first-team Capital One Academic All-District and All-American.
For his career, Schomaeker played in every game (108) and started 77. He ends his career with 988 points and a 41.8 overall lifetime shooting percentage (360-of-861). He also shot 38.6 percent (183-of-474) from long range and 78.0 percent (85-of-109) from the free-throw line. In addition, Schomaeker grabbed 268 rebounds (2.5 rpg.), dished out 265 assists, had seven blocked shots and 100 steals.
This is the 14th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 18th annual All-Ameircan selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
