Edwards Scores 1,000th Career Point in Win Against Rose-Hulman
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Senior forward Bernard Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Warren Cousino) became the 47th player in Defiance College men's basketball history to score 1,000 points in a career as the Yellow Jackets defeated Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology, 88-56, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game at the Karl H. Weaner Center.

Institute of Technology, 88-56, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
Edwards finished the game against the Fightin' Engineers with a game-high 30 points and now has 1,019 career points in three seasons as a Yellow Jacket. He is now 45th on the program's all-time leading scorer list. Edwards shot 11-of-16 from the floor (68.8 percent) and four-of-six (66.7 percent) from three-point range. He also added five rebounds. Joining Edwards in double-figure scoring was senior guard Mason Roth (McComb) who tallied 11 points, to go along with five assists) and the duo of senior guard Drew Frizell (Smithville) and freshman forward Michael Kaminski (Medina) added 10 points each. As a team, the Jackets shot an impressive 61.8 percent (34-of-55) overall, including 11-of-25 (44.0 percent) from three-point range.
Defiance (14-5, 9-3 HCAC) quickly jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but Rose-Hulman (10-9, 6-6 HCAC) rebounded by outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 8-4 to make it a one-possession game, 12-10, at the 14:23 minute mark of the first half. Coming into the game, Edwards needed just 11 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He netted his 1,000th point with 10:30 left in the half on a three-point play which gave DC a six-point margin, 20-14. The play came as part of a 13-0 scoring run which ended in a layup by Kaminski to increase the lead to 16 points, 30-14, with 7:40 left to play before the intermission. DC equaled its largest lead of the half on two other occasions before the end of the half and boasted a nine-point advantage at halftime with a score of 41-32.
DC opened the second half with a 12-2 run to regain a commanding 19-point lead, 53-34, following a three-pointer by senior guard Travis Schomaeker (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) with 15:44 to go. The Engineers never threatened the Yellow Jacket lead the remainder of the half as DC continued to pull away and eventually went on to lead by as many as 32 points with the final score of 88-56.
Rose-Hulman was held to 34.5 percent shooting (20-of-58) from the floor and 38.5 percent (five-of-13) from behind the arc. Rose-Hulman had one player score in double figures in Michael Hallstein who scored 12 points.
Defiance will host Anderson (Ind.) University on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in a conference matchup at the Weaner Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
