DEFIANCE, Ohio – On the eve of hosting a 'Black Out' against Bluffton on Wednesday night inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center, Defiance College netted eight points in the latest national poll released by www.D3hoops.com. It marked the sixth time this season that DC has earned votes in the national poll.
Defiance was one of only 36 teams from around the nation to receive points in the week 11 poll, logging eight for the 31st-highest total. The Jackets climbed one spot and two points in the poll from the previous week, after scoring an 83-64 win over Mount St. Joseph in its only game of the week to improve to 18-5 on the season.
DC will look to continue a current three-game winning streak when it hosts Bluffton on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be the 184th all-time clash between the long-time rivals on the hardwood, with the Jackets owning a 122-61 record in the series.
Wednesday will also be the final home regular season game for Defiance's six-man senior class that has gone 72-31 in its four years with the program. Heath Armstrong, Nate Conley, Mike Floyd, Nick Sales, Eric Stolly and Josh Stuckey have led DC to a .699 winning percentage during the last four years for the best rate since the class of 1987 posted a .711 clip on an 84-34 record. The 2010 senior class, which will be honored prior to the start of Wednesday's game, has won at least 17 games in all four seasons, qualified for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in each of the four campaigns and is the first class to graduate with more than 70 wins at Defiance in over 20 years.
Along with the Senior Night festivities, DC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be sponsoring a 'Black Out' for the game. All students and fans in attendance are asked to help the Yellow Jackets close out the regular season home schedule in style by wearing a black shirt to the game.
