Pettaway Voted as HCAC Male Athlete of the Month
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Defiance College’s Anthony Pettaway has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month for February, after leading the Jackets to a third-place finish in the league standings and their third-straight appearance in the HCAC Semifinals.

Pettaway closed out his career at Defiance in style, by averaging 20.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 blocks per game, while hitting 57.9-percent of his shots during eight February outings.
The Toledo, Ohio, native led Defiance in scoring seven times and topped the squad in rebounding four times, en route to racking up four double-double efforts. Pettaway also turned in four 20-point games, including a career-high 30 points in a win at Franklin, joined the 1,400-point club and climbed eight spots on DC's all-time scoring lists to 11th with 1,477 points.
Pettaway's monthly accolades and accomplishments also included earning an HCAC Player-of-the-Week award by netting 21.5 points and 11.5 boards per game in wins over MSJ and Rose-Hulman and being named to the HCAC All-Tournament Team. The senior center earned that honor after hitting the game-winning shot in DC's quarterfinal win against Hanover and averaging 23.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two tournament games.
Pettaway is the fifth Defiance male athlete to win the HCAC Athlete of the Month award and is the first athlete ever to receive the award four times in a career.
The HCAC Athlete of the Month award is in its fourth year of existence. The award is voted on by the sports information directors of each member institution.
