Bio

Spencer Treadwell joined the Defiance football coaching staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach prior to the 2022 season and made an immediate impact.  The offense flourished under Coach Treadwell's guidance.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT - In addition to the Yellow Jackets having the best offense in over a decade, the football team had their best finish since 2016.  The individual honors rolled in as well.  Coach Treadwell's offense produced six All-Conference performers. Four of these players received honors for the first time in their college career.

NEW HEIGHTS - In Coach Treadwell's second season, Defiance's offense had one of its best seasons in a generation as four more players received all-conference awards. The Jackets scored 32 points per game, registered 395 total yards per game including a 203-yard average on the ground, and scored 24 rushing touchdowns. Those totals were all the highest outputs since the 1993 season. Defiance also set single-game program records for total yards (663), first downs (31) and completed passes (33) in Week 3 at Kalamazoo before posting back-to-back 50-point performances for the first time in program history in the eighth and ninth games of the campaign.

Treadwell comes to Defiance after serving as the tight ends coach and special teams coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as well as serving as the video, equipment, and recruiting coordinator. During his time there, he coached punter Josh Sanchez to First Team All-SWAC honors.

Before coaching at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, he was the wide receivers coach for three seasons at Walsh University where he coached wide receiver Tyre Gray and returner Koby Adu Poku to Second Team All-Conference selections. Prior to Walsh, he spent a season at Alma College coaching running backs and was the video coordinator. Also, for two seasons from 2015-2017, he was the offensive graduate assistant for Kent State University where he also coached quarterbacks.

As a player, Treadwell spent four years at Miami University where he played running back, was a three-year letterman, two-time team captain, and made the Dean's List twice as a Redhawk. Treadwell earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Leadership and Management from Miami University and received his Master of Arts in Sports and Recreation Management from Kent State University.

He has professional coaching experience at the NCAA Division I/II/III levels.
