Coltrain named HCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time
CARMEL, Ind. – Defiance College linebacker Thomas Coltrain was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the second time this season after a 19-tackle afternoon on Saturday, the conference announced on Monday.
The award for Coltrain is his fourth career recognition by the HCAC as the Leslie, Mich. native recorded his 16th career game with double-digit tackles. His 19 tackles are a new career-high and the most in a game this season by any defender in the HCAC, an achievement he has achieved two years in a row.
Despite the 78-54 defeat, Coltrain was all over the field for Defiance and notched seven solo tackles and assisted on 12 more. He raised his career tackles total to 343, third-most in program history entering his final game on Saturday. He enters Saturday's game 14 tackles shy of 100 for the season.
The Yellow Jackets play their final football game as an NCAA D-III member next Saturday with rival Bluffton visiting Coressel Stadium. Kickoff against the Beavers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. followed by the final game of the Purple and Gold Men's Basketball Tournament to follow at 5:30 p.m.
