"I've known Coach Bolen for a few years now and have followed his career as an assistant coach," added head coach Manny Matsakis. "He was one of the first people I called to join my coaching staff when I came to Defiance College, but the time was not right for him to become a Yellow Jacket. Our staff is genuinely excited to have him come on board to coach Quarterbacks and Receivers this season."
Bolen comes to Defiance College from Fairmont State University where he served as the running backs coach for the Fighting Falcons. During the 2018 season, Bolen helped guide the Falcons to a 9-2 overall record and an 8-2 Mountain East Conference record. Under his guidance, the running back core tallied 2,452 yards of rushing with two earning All-Conference honors.
Before joining Fairmont State, Bolen served as the quarterbacks coach, as well as the passing game coordinator and safeties coach for the Greensboro College Pride.
Bolen played his collegiate football at West Virginia Wesleyan College seeing action on both sides of the ball starting at quarterback as well as safety. Tyler graduated in May of 2017 from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in Physical Education and Health.
