Football Crowned with Two Statistical Championships for 2013
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The 2013 Defiance College Yellow Jacket football team has been awarded with two Individual NCAA Division III Statistical Category Championships. Senior Tony Sierra and Sophomore Andrew Feldhaus each led the nation in a statistical category this past season.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The 2013 Defiance College Yellow Jacket football team has been awarded with two Individual NCAA Division III Statistical Category Championships. Senior Tony Sierra and Sophomore Andrew Feldhaus each led the nation in a statistical category this past season.
Sierra (Warren, Mich./Cousino) was named the NCAA Statistical Champion for Passes Defended Per Game after averaging 2.6 per contest through the season. Sierra led the nation by .6 per contest as second and third in the nation each averaged 2.0. The award caps off a decorated season for the senior, who was named to three All-America teams as well as HCAC and All-Ohio Defensive Player of the Year.
Feldhaus (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) was named the NCAA Statistical Champion for Forced Fumbles Per Game after forcing six on the season for a .6 average. Feldhaus just edged out second place, who finished with a .56 average. The sophomore also finished fourth in the nation in fumbles recovered. Feldhaus was named to the All-HCAC First team and also garnered Second Team All-Region and All-Ohio awards.
The Defiance defensive unit narrowly missed out on a team award, finishing second in the nation in Third Down Conversion Percentage (.245) behind only Wabash (.225).
