DEFIANCE, Ohio – Ryan Black has been voted by the Defiance College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the winner of the SAAC Sportsmanship Award for November. The award is part of the NCAA's Respect Campaign and is announced throughout the year.
Student-athletes are nominated for the honor by their head coach and the winner is determined by the vote of the Defiance College SAAC members. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be involved in an in-season sport and must consistently demonstrate good sportsmanship throughout their season.
Black was nominated by football head coach, Rob Taylor, for demonstrating model behavior on and off the field. Taylor stated, "At the beginning of the season, Ryan changed positions to help the team and to fill a role on the offensive line. He unselfishly moved to center, a position that receives little recognition and helped command the offensive line for one of the top rushing offenses in the conference this season." Taylor added, "Besides football, Ryan is a great student, carrying a grade-point average over 3.0 in business administration and mathematics."
Black also spends time working with the maintenance department at Defiance College and was recently tabbed as a First-Team All-HCAC performer for the Yellow Jackets.
