GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the fourth time in the past five weeks, Defiance College's Kyle Longsdorf has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference after the senior free safety led the Jackets to a 10-7 win at Manchester. [HCAC Release]
Longsdorf registered a game-high 17 tackles and added a 10-yard sack, before sealing DC's fifth-straight victory by intercepting a Manchester pass in the end zone with 18 seconds left in the game. The senior free safety highlighted another strong showing by the Yellow Jacket defense, which held the Spartans to only 189 total yards of offense and just 2.7 yards per snap.
The road victory kept DC's (6-3, 6-1 HCAC) hopes alive for a share of the HCAC Championship entering the final week of the season and also set a new program record for the most conference victories since joining the HCAC in 2000.
The HCAC weekly honor is the sixth for Longsdorf over his four seasons with the Purple and Gold and marks the 10th such award for the Defiance College football program during the 2010 campaign.
Longsdorf and the Jackets can clinch the 13th conference championship in program history with a win at Bluffton on November 13, along with a Hanover victory at Franklin.
