ADRIAN, Mich. – Defiance College failed to dent the scoreboard on Saturday night and fell, 20-0, to Adrian in the latest installment of DC's 'Border War' with the Bulldogs. The Yellow Jackets' all-time lead in the series now stands at 28-26-1.
The teams struggled through a scoreless opening quarter before Adrian grabbed the lead on an eight-yard scamper from Mike McGee with 13:31 remaining in the first half. AC would push the spread to 10-0 in the waning moments of the half, as Justin Warner connected on a 32-yard field goal with 43 seconds showing on the clock.
Warner split the uprights once again in the third quarter, this time hitting from 23 yards out with 12:44 left in the third quarter to lift Adrian to the 13-0 advantage.
The score would remain that way until the Bulldogs tacked on their second touchdown run of the evening in the closing minutes of the contest. Myke Johnson's four-yard scoring run would be the final score of the night and seal the 20-0 victory for Adrian.
The Defiance offense struggled once again and was held under 160 total yards of offense for the second time in as many tries this season. The Jackets managed just nine first downs and failed to convert a single third down, going 0-for-12 in the game.
DC also lost the turnover battle after throwing a trio of interceptions. Adrian countered by committing only one turnover, which was an interception by DC's Dustin Supan.
Tom Foos played well and helped Defiance stay close with a string of solid punts. The sophomore booted nine punts for 360 yards and a long of 46 yards.
Keith Snyder led the defense with a game-high 21 tackles in the losing effort. Snyder recorded 10 of those hits via the solo variety and now has 29 stops on the year. Snyder was joined in double figures by Rodney Donald, who tallied 11 hits and a pair for lost yardage.
Supan had DC's only interception of the night and returned it 34 yards and Joel Billings logged the lone sack of the game for the Jackets.
Defiance falls to 0-2 with the loss and will try once again for its first win of the 2008 campaign when it hosts Trine (1-0) on Saturday, Sep. 20 at 1:30 pm.
