Anderson finishes series sweep of DC on Monday
ANDERSON, Ind. – The Defiance Yellow Jackets shouldered a third straight loss to the Anderson Ravens, 11-1, to conclude their weekend series of HCAC play.
After a walk-off defeat in Game 1 on Sunday, Anderson invoked the conference's run rule in each of the next two contests to improve to 18-11 and 8-4 in the league while DC falls to 4-19 and 1-11 in the HCAC.
The Yellow Jackets struck first in the first inning when Trent Murdock delivered an RBI single while starter Aiden Behrman held the Ravens to just one run over the first three frames. However, Anderson used a trio of big innings to run away with the 10-run win on 14 hits for the game.
A three-run fourth propelled Anderson to the lead as Brandon Tabor's double snapped the 1-1 tie. Two hitters later, the Ravens pulled a suicide squeeze with runners on the corners to grab a third run. The four-run fifth featured four hits and two walks as Defiance used three pitchers to navigate through the inning. Jeremy Russo pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning for the Yellow Jackets but the Ravens added three in the seventh to finish the game early on Justin Reed's two-run, bases-loaded single.
