Baseball Concludes Southern Trip with Alvernia
FORT MYERS, FLA. - The Defiance College baseball team concluded spring break action on Friday afternoon with a pair of games against Alvernia University. The Golden Eagles defeated Defiance by 4-1 and 14-2 scorelines.

In game one the Yellow Jackets struck first when Nate Kaffenbarger (DeGraff/Indian Lake) hit a deep sac fly to bring home Garrett Sierra (Defiance/Defiance). Alvernia pulled one back to even the game after one inning.
AU was able put across three more runs in the seven inning game, handing the Yellow Jackets their first loss of the action in Florida.
Leading DC at the plate in game one was Sierra, tallying two hits on three at-bats. Kaffenbarger and Lucas Thomeier (Wickliffe/Wickliffe) followed up with one hit each.
Game two saw the Golden Eagles find their stride, putting up 14 runs in the contest. The Yellow Jackets first scoring play of the game came in the fourth inning, as Troy Konwinski (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park) hit a single to right that brougt home Ben Bucklew (Archbold/Archbold).
DC put a run across in the final inning as well, as Thomeier singled past second base, bringing home Nolan Kestner (Mason/Mason).
Defiance heads back to Ohio with a 5-2-1 record. DC will take a week off before returning to action Saturday, March 16 and 17 with a busy weekend at Baldwin Wallace. The Purple and Gold will take on Oberlin and Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, while wrapping up the weekend with Alma on Sunday.
