Yellow Jackets Baseball drops pair of games to MSJ
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Defiance College baseball team dropped its two games Saturday to Mount St. Joseph, falling 11-5 and 8-3 in a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference games.

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Defiance College baseball team dropped its two games Saturday to Mount St. Joseph, falling 11-5 and 8-3 in a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference games.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets fell behind early as Mount St. Joseph scored three runs in the bottom of the first and three more runs in the bottom of the third. The Lions used a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to go ahead of DC in the first inning and added a two-RBI double and a RBI single in the third.
Defiance got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with a Tyler Sloan single that scored Gary Levengood. However, the Lions answered right back with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
The sixth inning went similar to the fifth as DC scored another run. This time, Ben Weber singled and scored Darin Waterman. However, Mount St. Joseph added another run in the bottom half of the inning to go up 8-2.
Mount St. Joseph added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, before Defiance scored its first multi-run inning of the game.
In the top of the eighth, Levengood reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Waterman to score his second run of the game. Patrick Masopust later singled, scoring Levengood.
In the ninth, Defiance was able to add another run, but could not sustain a rally dropping the game 11-5.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets and Lions both started slow. Mount St. Joseph got on the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the third, but Defiance answered back in the top of the fourth, tying the game at one.
Zack Reed had an RBI single, which allowed Weber to score and tie the game. However, the Yellow Jackets gave up six runs to the Lions in the fifth and seventh innings, falling behind 7-1.
Defiance responded with two runs in the top of the eight, but was unable to close the gap on MSJ anymore.
DC's two runs came off a Masopust single which scored Levengood and Waterman.
Waterman and Weber led DC with four hits a piece on the day. Masopust led the Yellow Jackets with three RBIs in the two games.
The Yellow Jackets will look to rebound on Tuesday when Defiance travels to Manchester for a single game.
