LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Tim Pitro swatted a three run home run in the second inning and left the yard again to lead off the fifth, but the host Pioneers exploded for four or more runs in three separate innings and handed Defiance a 14-4 defeat in its HCAC opener on Friday night.
Pitro accounted for all four runs in the game, going 2-3 from the plate with the two homers and four runs batted in. Mike Hill (3-4) and Brad Timofeev (2-4) also had hot bats and each came around to score on Pitros second-inning blast.

Transy answered with another big rally, this time plating four runs to push the lead to 9-4. The Pioneers would strike again for a single run in the seventh and put the game away with another four spot in the bottom of the eighth.
For the game Defiance scored four runs on eight hits and committed three errors which led to five unearned Transy runs. The Pioneers scored 14 on 12 hits and did not commit an error.
Defiance (4-7, 0-1 HCAC) will get two more cracks at Transylvania on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.
