Twelve Yellow Jackets pick up Winter Academic All-HCAC honors
CARMEL, Ind. -- Twelve Defiance College student-athletes representing the men's and women's basketball teams were recognized by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC.
Men's basketball had five players meet the requirements in senior Will Garlock (5x Academic All-HCAC), junior Will Gehlhausen (4x Academic All-HCAC), and sophomore Jordyn Jury, Ried Jury, and Evan Park. It is the second season in a row under head coach Josh Gibson that the program has had at least five Academic All-Conference honorees, which is the most by the program in one season since 2004-05.
The women's basketball team produced seven Academic All-HCAC selections: seniors Kaiya Albert and Teagan Hunt (2x Academic All-HCAC), junior Karrie Smith, and sophomores Addy Allen, Zadria King, Ali Mowen, and Maile Misleh-Cowan. Guided by first-year head coach Courtney Peay, seven of nine players eligible to receive honors did so, and became the third consecutive season of seven or greater Academic All-HCAC Awards by the women's basketball program.
Academic All-Conference selection must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater while competing in varsity athletics. Eligibility is based upon the end of the preceding semester to the end of the winter season (Fall 2023) and each student-athlete must have at least one full academic year completed.
