Bingley, George Earn Top Scorers at HCAC’s, Lead DC to Third
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Day two of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded Saturday, April 27 with juniors Kim Bingley and Kali George being the top two overall point’s scorers and pacing DC to third place.

Bingley earned 34.5 for first just edging out George, who scored 32.5.
For the junior from Ottawa, Ohio, Bingley was outstanding on the second day of action. The multi-event athlete competed in six events overall with her best mark on Saturday coming in the javelin. Bingley placed first in the event with a toss of 33.82 meters. She then put up a solid 5.22 m mark in the long jump for second. Bingley also added solid outings in the hurdles events. She notched third in the 100-hurdles (15.58) and fifth in the 400h (1:06.35).
George did her best to match Bingley point for point and put on a strong performance of her own. Like Bingley, George's best finish came in the javelin, where she took second right behind her teammate with a distance of 33.11 meters. The East Palestine, Ohio, native then added third-place marks in the 400-meter dash (1:00.88) and high jump (1.62 m), along with finishing fourth in the long jump (5.06 m) and sixth in the 200 (27.04).
The DC women's track and field team nabbed its second event champion in the 100-meter hurdles when sophomore Brooke Lime clocked in a 15.09 for the win. She also collected a fourth-place finish in the 400h with a time of 1:05.72.
Senior Katie Heitkamp added a few points to the Yellow Jacket total with a time of 1:02.76 in the 400-meter dash to give her fifth place.
The four individuals then teamed up in the 4x400-meter relay to set a new Defiance record. Bingley, George, Heitkamp and Lime combined for a third-place time of 4:05.66 that bested the previous mark by just less than four seconds.
Another notable mark from the squad came from freshman Waverly Weaks, who soared 4.98 meters in long jump for sixth place. Also, senior Kate Borer and freshmen Jessie Bell, Ryley Frost and Erin Rhodes earned sixth in the 4x100-meter relay.
Overall, the Purple and Gold women's track and field team came away with a solid third-place outing in which it scored 111 points. Hanover finished first at the championships with 179 and earned its third-straight outdoor conference title. Taking second at the meet was Franklin with 144 points.
DC will next be in action on Wednesday, May 8, when it travels up to Michigan for the Hillsdale Classic. The meet will be the first on its slate of competition to make qualifying marks for nationals. Action at the classic is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
