Lady Jackets Stride Out at All-Ohio
DELAWARE, Ohio – It was a solid performance for the Defiance College women’s track and field team on Saturday, April 13 at the All-Ohio Championships.
DELAWARE, Ohio – It was a solid performance for the Defiance College women's track and field team on Saturday, April 13 at the All-Ohio Championships. Junior Kim Bingley paced the Jackets with a pair of top-five finishes at the competition, while senior Katie Heitkamp and sophomore Brooke Lime each scored one.
Bingley's best event on the afternoon came in the javelin. The Ottawa, Ohio, native hurled a mark of 33.94 meters that put her in second. The multi-event athlete also finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.11 and tossed a shot put distance of 11.13 m for ninth place.
For the hurdler from Defiance High, Lime showed well with times of 15.34 and 1:08.55 in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles, respectively. The marks were good for third overall in the 100 and eighth in the 400.
DC's lone senior female competitor at the meet was Heitkamp. The St. Mary's, Ohio, native was able to clear a height of 3.10 meters in the pole vault that scored her fifth place.
All three of these track members took part in the 4x400-meter relay and with the help of freshman Waverly Weaks, were able to cross the finish line in 4:13.66. The time put the squad at seventh overall at the meet.
Other top-10 outings on the afternoon came from junior Kali George and freshman Kim Maro. In the 400 meter dash, George ran a 59.89 to notch the eighth-fastest time. Then in the javelin, Maro registered a distance of 30.41 meters to put her in ninth place.
For the final team results, the Mount Union women's track and field dominated the championships with a score of 145.50. The next closest competitor was the host Ohio Wesleyan with 98 points. Baldwin-Wallace rounded out the top-three at 65. The Purple and Gold concluded the meet with 25 points for 13th place.
The Yellow Jackets track and field squad will return to action next Saturday, April 20 when they travel to Indiana for the Manchester Invitational. The competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
