Lady Jackets Take Third Place at DC Invitational
DEFIANCE, Ohio – It was a well-rounded afternoon for the Defiance College women’s track and field squad at the teams second home meet of the indoor season.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – It was a well-rounded afternoon for the Defiance College women's track and field squad at the teams second home meet of the indoor season. The Lady Jackets notched 88.50 points in the competition, only one point behind Wittenberg for second.
Junior Kali George is having a stellar indoor season and continues to put up top finishes and results week in and week out. After chalking up her second DC record of the season in the 300-meter dash last weekend, the East Palestine High product took part in the record setting 4x400-meter relay team.
Senior Katie Heitkamp, junior Ericha Griep, sophomore Brooke Lime and George crossed the finish line in 4:16.77, nearly eight full seconds ahead of the second-place squad at the meet and two seconds faster than the old 4x400 record.
Individually, all four of the Lady Jackets had success as well. George notched second in the 200-meter dash (27.03) and first in the high jump (1.58 meters). Her time in the 200 currently sits as the top time in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this year.
Lime, a Defiance, Ohio, native, placed second overall in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.48 seconds. Then Heitkamp and Griep each accounted for a third-place finish in the 400-meter and 800-meter dashes, respectively.
In the field events area, freshman Waverly Weaks also produced a solid outing at the invitational for DC. Competing in the long and triple jump events, the Liberty Center High alum recorded distances of 4.76 meters (second place) and 9.43 meters (third place), respectively.
The Purple and Gold track and field squad will return to action next Saturday, February 2 when it takes the short drive down to Ada, Ohio for the Ohio Northern Invitational. Events will kick off at 11 a.m. in the King Horn Sports Center.
