FINDLAY, Ohio – It looks like junior women's track and field athlete Kali George has picked up right where she left off from the teams last meet in December of 2012. At the Trine Invitational, George busted into the DC history books with a new record-time in the 400-meter dash and today broke the 300-meter dash mark.
George, an East Palestine High product had herself a day at the Northwestern Ohio Invitational on Friday, January 18. The heptathlon competitor sprinted a 42.87 in the 300-meter dash, which set her second Yellow Jacket indoor record of the season and was good for second place at the meet.
But the junior athlete was not finished. George also competed in the long jump and hurled herself 5.09 meters (16 ft. 8.5 in.) that landed her second overall at the competition and second all-time in the Purple and Gold records books.
In other events, senior Katie Heitkamp had a strong outing as well. The Saint Mary's, Ohio, native set the second DC indoor record of her career, as she posted a 1:23.64 time in the 500-meter dash. Her mark passed the previous top mark by over a second. Heitkamp placed seventh overall in the event.
Also of note, fellow senior Kate Borer placed well in her two events. In the pole vault, Borer tied for the second-best height with a 2.74 meter jump. She then went on to the triple jump and notched a distance of 9.28 meters, which was good for fourth.
The Yellow Jackets will return home next weekend for their second home meet of the indoor season when they host the Defiance Invitational on Saturday, January 26. Action will start at 11 a.m.
