ANGOLA, Ind. – After being a part of the second-place 4x400 relay team in the DC Holiday Meet last Saturday, Junior Kali George went solo in the 400 meters for today's Trine Invitational and sprinted the fastest recorded two laps in DC women's indoor track history.
After never registering an individual 400 meter dash time in her DC career, George ousted the old school record by crossing the finish line in 1:01.01. The first-place run was a whole two and a half seconds better than the previous record of 1:03.59 set by Angela Karacson in 1996.
A pair of senior Lady Jacket field athletes also grabbed top finishes at the Trine Invite. In the pole vault, Katie Heitkamp made it over a height of 2.75 meters and Kate Borer triple jumped to a distance of 9.44 meters.
Defiance put together a few other strong showings around the track. Sophomores Melissa Russell and Maegan Redick took home second in the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes, respectively. Then for the Jacket throwers, sophomore Nikki Young finished third with a 9.11 meter shot put toss and junior Mollee Galloway threw 10.09 meters for third-place in the weight throw.
The Lady Jacket track and field team will be back in action on January 18, 2013 after it returns from the long Christmas break. The squad will be competing at the Northwestern Ohio Invitational hosted by Findlay University. Action will start up at 2:30 p.m.
