Johnston Selected to Academic All-District IV First Team
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Justine Johnston garnered her second-straight ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV honor, after being named to the first team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Justine Johnston garnered her second-straight ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV honor, after being named to the first team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The award recognizes student athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing field. In order to be eligible for this award, the athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status or higher academically, participate in over half of the team's games and play a key role in those games.
Johnston wraps up her collegiate career as one of the most decorated athletes in DC softball history. The Wauseon, Ohio native was a four-time All-HCAC honoree, while also claiming multiple all-region and Academic All-American accolades in her tenure.
Johnston set a trio of Defiance career records in her four campaigns with DC, setting school marks with 66 victories, 79 complete games and 412 strikeouts. The Wauseon, Ohio native closed out her career with the Jackets on a high note, winning a record 19 games while posting 2.33 ERA with six shutouts.
The senior posted a 3.83 cumulative grade-point average, majoring in early childhood education.
Defiance wrapped up the 2009 with a school-record 30 victories, while claiming its second-straight HCAC Tournament title and NCAA Regional Final Four appearance.
