Gibson named head men’s basketball coach

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Josh Gibson, an eight-year collegiate head-coaching veteran, was named on Wednesday as the head men’s basketball coach at Defiance College. Since 2012, Gibson has served as a head coach at both the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels.

Jordan named Second Team All-HCAC in men’s basketball for second time

CARMEL, Ind. – For the second consecutive season, Defiance College’s Marell Jordan, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Chicago, Illinois, and Lafayette (Indiana) Jefferson High School, was named Second Team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference as the HCAC office announced its 2021 men’s basketball all-conference squads and major award winners on Thursday morning. Jordan also was the lone representative from Defiance on the All-HCAC teams last year after a vote of the conference’s head coaches.

Men’s basketball returns with loss in HCAC Championship quarterfinals

HANOVER, Ind. – Playing its first game since Jan. 30, the Defiance College men's basketball team returned to the court on Wednesday night with a season-ending 101-70 loss to the Hanover College Panthers in the quarterfinal round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Collier Arena. Defiance entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed with Hanover the No. 3 seed.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Both the women’s and men’s basketball teams at Defiance College have completed their 2020-21 regular seasons and are now preparing to compete in their respective Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. No spectators allowed at athletic events until at least mid-February

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Due to rising health concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Council of Presidents and Defiance College have decided to not allow spectators at any athletic events until at least Feb. 15, 2021. The HCAC, which Defiance has been a member of since 2000, will reevaluate this policy next month.

CARMEL, Ind. – Heading into its long-awaited upcoming season, the Defiance College men’s basketball team is picked to finish seventh among the 10 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference squads, according to the 2020-21 HCAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll. The poll was comprised after a vote of the conference’s head coaches and released by the HCAC office on Monday morning.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The 2020-21 season opener for the Defiance College men’s basketball team, scheduled for today at 5:30 p.m., has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. Defiance was slated to play the NCAA Division I Miami University RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio, in a game to be broadcast live on ESPN3. The contest will not be rescheduled.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Despite having a roster that includes no seniors for the second straight season, the Defiance College men’s basketball team heads into the unpredictable, coronavirus-affected 2020-21 campaign with high hopes as sixth-year head coach Scott Cutter returns nine players and welcomes the same number of newcomers. His young, but somewhat experienced 2020-21 squad includes two juniors, eight sophomores and eight freshmen.
