Kaffenbarger takes part in NCAA Career in Sports Forum
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College baseball player Nate Kaffenbarger (De Graff, Ohio/Indian Lake) was one of close to 400 NCAA student-athletes who had the opportunity to get career guidance and network with athletics administrators and sports industry experts virtually May 27-29 at the 2020 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.

Honoring 2020 Spring Sports Seniors: Baseball
This week, in conjunction with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, Defiance College and its athletic department are honoring seniors who were part of spring sports in 2020. Baseball is the first sport featured and the seniors on this year’s team included Derek Angelone (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg), Will Bohlman (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), Zac Brazen (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda), Jon Brown (Haskins, Ohio/Otsego), Ben Bucklew (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold), Paris Creek (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan), Grant Curavo (Northwood, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch Catholic) and Jude Neary (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch Catholic).

Brown off to great start before season, career cut short
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College baseball player Jon Brown (Haskins, Ohio/Otsego) has been a dependable piece of the Yellow Jackets’ pitching staff for four years and was off to a great start to his final season. Then, the coronavirus forced the cancellation of the 2020 campaign, in which Defiance won seven of its first 10 games.

Shortened baseball season ends with best winning percentage in 52 years
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Before having its 2020 season shortened because of the coronavirus, the Defiance College baseball team was off to a fabulous start after posting a 7-1 record on its annual Spring Break trip to Florida. With the cancellation of the remainder of its season, Defiance completes the campaign at 7-3 overall.

Nies named HCAC’s top pitcher this week
CARMEL, Ind. – After a vote of its sports information directors, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the Athletes of the Week for spring sports on Monday afternoon. In baseball, Defiance College’s Cohen Nies (Logansport, Ind./Lewis Cass) was named the HCAC Pitcher of the Week, marking the first time this season and third time in his career that he has earned the honor.

Baseball concludes Florida trip by splitting two games with Haverford
FORT MYERS, Fla. – On Friday, the Defiance College baseball squad concluded its annual trip to Florida by splitting a very competitive doubleheader with the Haverford College Fords in the 30th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. After having its six-game winning streak end with a 5-4 extra-inning loss, Defiance bounced back with a 6-5 victory at the Lee County Player Development Complex.

Baseball extends winning streak to six games with two more victories
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Defiance College baseball team was back in action on Thursday in the 30th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Lee County Player Development Complex against the State University of New York at Canton Roos. In a doubleheader, Defiance came up with two more victories by the scores of 10-3 and 6-0 to extend its winning streak to six games.

Baseball picks up two one-run wins in Florida on Tuesday
FORT MYERS, Fla. – On Tuesday in the 30th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Lee County Player Development Complex, the Defiance College baseball team picked up two one-run wins over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. Defiance won the opening game of the doubleheader, 3-2, before posting a 4-3 victory.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the opening doubleheader during its annual Spring Break trip, the Defiance College baseball team swept the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners by the scores of 7-1 and 3-2. The games were played as a part of the 30th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Lee County Player Development Complex.

Baseball opens 2020 campaign by dropping road doubleheader
UPLAND, Ind. – The Defiance College baseball team opened its 2020 season on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader on the road against the Taylor University Trojans. Defiance dropped the first game, 17-2, before suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in the second at Winterholter Field.

Baseball looking to continue success in 2020 behind experienced pitching
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Coming off a solid season last year, the Defiance College baseball team looks to keep improving and be in the hunt for the 2020 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. In 2019 – after being picked to finish last in the conference by the HCAC head coaches – Defiance went 23-16-1 overall. The Yellow Jackets tied for third place in the conference at 10-8 before making a strong run with two wins at the HCAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed.

Baseball to start 2020 season on road next Tuesday
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College baseball team’s opening games of the 2020 season, a doubleheader with the Taylor University Trojans first set for this past Tuesday, Feb. 25, have been rescheduled for next Tuesday, March 3 at 2 p.m. in Upland, Indiana. The original twinbill was postponed due to rainy weather.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – On Tuesday afternoon, the Defiance College baseball team was scheduled to open its 2020 season with a doubleheader against the Taylor University Trojans in Upland, Indiana, but the games have been postponed due to rainy weather. No makeup date has been set.

Baseball picked seventh in 2020 HCAC preseason poll
CARMEL, Ind. – Heading into the upcoming season, the Defiance College baseball team is picked to finish seventh this year among the 10 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference squads, according to the 2020 HCAC Baseball Preseason Poll. The poll was comprised in a vote of the conference’s head coaches and released by the HCAC office on Tuesday morning.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College head baseball coach Derek Woodley has announced the dates for several camps and clinics that will take place at the end of December and throughout January. All of the sessions are to be held inside the George M. Smart Athletic Center on the DC campus.
