DEFIANCE, Ohio – On Tuesday afternoon, the Defiance College baseball team was scheduled to open its 2020 season with a doubleheader against the Taylor University Trojans in Upland, Indiana, but the games have been postponed due to rainy weather. No makeup date has been set.
The two contests at Taylor, an NAIA member which is off to a 10-2 start this year, were late additions to the Defiance slate a couple of weeks ago. If the twinbill at TU is not rescheduled and played by next Friday, March 6, the Yellow Jackets will begin their season at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida, on March 9 when they take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a pair of games.
DC finished 23-16-1 overall and tied for third place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference last year with a 10-8 record. Defiance returns 18 players from its 2019 squad.
