American Volleyball Coaches Association honors Defiance College volleyball for second straight year
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College volleyball has received recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association and the United States Marine Corps as one of a record-setting 1,333 teams to achieve the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
It is the second year in a row to make the list for the Yellow Jackets with a 3.49 team GPA and the seventh overall for the program since the award was started in 1992-93. Defiance College volleyball is among the top 229 Division III teams to finish the academic year with a 3.3 GPA or higher.
"I am very proud of the work the team put in this past academic year to be awarded our second AVCA/USMC team academic award," says head coach Nick Umbdenstock. "It is a testament to the work ethic of our program and the type of student-athlete that we desire to fill all of our athletic programs at Defiance College."
Defiance College volleyball returns to the court on Friday, September 1 with a two-day tournament in Hoboken, N.J.
