FRANKLIN, Ind. – A tough stretch for Defiance College women's soccer continued on Saturday with a 6-0 loss at Franklin.
The loss was the program's seventh in a row to fall to 2-9-2 overall and 0-5 in the HCAC. Franklin picked up their third win of the year and improved to 2-2-2 in conference action.
Despite Franklin holding a 33-2 shot advantage for the match, the Grizzlies did not get on the board until the 34th minute of play when Adex Bixler punched a penalty kick through for the game's first score. The Grizzlies added two more goals before halftime and another just 2:38 into the second half before Maddison Claybrooke added two more goals halfway through the second.
Sarah O'Shea spent the entire match between the pipes for Defiance and knocked down 14 shots on goal out of 20 total attempts on frame. Franklin's defense kept the pressure off keeper Makenna Mundy, who knocked down DC's lone shot on goal by Haley Hughes in the 81st minute.
DC returns to their home pitch on Wednesday evening against rival Bluffton. Kickoff against the Beavers is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Winsper Knobel Field.
