This was the first time a member of the Lady Jackets soccer program has been named All-Ohio since 2008, when Sarah Plas was named third-team.
Heitkamp switched to a defender position in her senior campaign to help the team and the move couldn't have turned out better. Even though, she took a hit in the offensive categories, the St. Mary's native made a huge impact on the Purple and Gold defense. The team posted its best record since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2000 and Heitkamp was named First-Team All-HCAC as a defender.
On the pitch, the Memorial, Ohio native never left the field as she started and played every minute of all 19 matches on the season. Heitkamp was able to register a pair of scores and an assist at the offensive end. In 2011, the senior defender was a member of the All-Ohio Academic Third-Team, as well as Second-Team All-HCAC
Heitkamp is also a standout on the track and field team. The senior currently holds the all-time school record in the pole vault.
For the other member of the DC women's soccer squad, this was Smith's first time being named All-Ohio. The junior from Parma, Ohio, had a stellar season, as the head of the Yellow Jacket attack. The forward led the squad in both goals (seven) and points (17), while being tied for first with three assists.
A big part to Smith's strong season helping out the team, was her timely goal scoring. The Parma High product notched four game-winning shots, including two that were back-to-back in 1-0 wins over Rochester and Mount St. Joseph. Smith was also named First-Team All-HCAC for the 2012 season.
