Boroff earns first-career win with surge in second round at Yellow Jacket Spring Invitational

KALIDA, Ohio – Junior Winter Boroff (Convoy, Ohio/Lincolnview) picked up her first career victory and made up a three-shot deficit over the last 18 holes at DC's Yellow Jacket Spring Invitational at Moose Landing Country Club.

After a first-round 84 on Friday, Boroff shot 79 on Saturday to climb to the top of the leaderboard and matched a career-best 18-hole score in the process. Her 163 two-day total was two shots better than John Carroll's Amanda Pancake. Starting the day on the 15th, Boroff tallied seven straight pars and took just one double-bogie for the entire round. Boroff's victory is the first individual victory for DC women's golf since Cassi Van Dyke won the Anderson Ravens Invitational nearly one year ago to the day (April 22-23, 2023). It was also Boroff's third top-five of the year.

Isabelle Vance (Continental, Ohio/Miller City) had DC's top score from the first day, an 83, and rode out a sixth-place finish to give the Yellow Jackets two finishers near the top of the leaderboard. Vance's 38 on the front nine fueled her strong performance on Friday with the team's lone birdie on the first day on the sixth hole. The elements were to blame for much of the second day 97 to close the tournament at 180.

Emily Momany (Toledo, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian) compiled a 227 over the tournament for a 23rd-place finish. After a 121 on the first day, she bounced back and took 15 strokes off her score on Saturday by closing at 106.

Defiance did not post a team score due to playing one golfer down for most of the tournament with Cassi Van Dyke (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) withdrawing after nine holes on Friday.

The team title when to John Carroll, who bettered Capital by 40 strokes with a 723.

Defiance travels to Franklin, Ind. next weekend for the program's final tune-up before the conference championships. Dubbed the Grizzly Invitational, the Yellow Jackets will play next Saturday and Sunday at Legends Golf Course with 9 a.m. tee times each day.
