More records toppled by women’s golf at Heidelberg Fall Invitational
TIFFIN, Ohio – Cassi Van Dyke set a new individual 36-hole tournament record to lead the charge to a new team 36-hole program record as the Defiance College women's golf team completed the two-day Heidelberg Fall Invitational at Fostoria Country Club on Sunday.
The quartet of Van Dyke, Isabelle Vance, Winter Boroff and Emily Momany surpassed the prior record of 715 with a two-day total of 712. The group shot 359 on Saturday and 353 on Sunday as Van Dyke and Vance each set new personal bests during the tournament.
Van Dyke fell just two shots short of the individual 18-hole record with a scorecard of 80 on Saturday, which is tied for third-best in program history. After 81 strokes on Sunday, the Maryville native completed a record-setting 161 tournament and bested DC's previous 36-hole record of 165 set by Allison Barron at the Heidelberg Invite in 2016. Van Dyke finished the weekend tied for 18th on the leaderboard for her second top-20 finish of the fall season.
Vance shot 85 on Saturday followed by a PR of 82 on Sunday to finish tied for 23rd with a two-day total of 167. Vance's two-day score is her second tournament that low and is now tied for the fourth-lowest tournament by a Yellow Jacket. Boroff hit a pair of sub-90 rounds with cards that totaled 84 and 88 for a 172 total that also qualifies for the program's top-10 tournament. Momany hit 110 on Saturday and also set a personal best on Sunday with a round of 102 to finish the tournament at 212.
The Yellow Jackets finished 10th in the 14-team field. Ohio Northern won the team title with 611, 15 strokes better than second-place Mount Union. The Polar Bears' Grace Honingford earned tournament medalist honors with rounds of 72 and 73 for a total of 145, five strokes better than second place.
Defiance traveled to Wabash, Ind. next weekend for a two-day invite hosted by Manchester at Honeywell Golf Club.
