Women’s golf finishes spring season at HCAC Championship
HARRISON, Ohio – While playing in the final round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday, the Defiance College women’s golf team finished its 2021 spring season. Mount St. Joseph University served as host of the three-day, 54-hole tournament at the 5,905-yard Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course, which played to a par of 73.

Defiance followed up back-to-back rounds of 407 on Friday and Saturday to register a 422 over the last 18 holes for a 1,236 total, which ranked eighth of nine squads. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology ran away with the tournament title with 329-322-324—975 while Hanover College came from behind to place second (362-352-347—1,061).
Junior Shelby Mercer paced the Yellow Jackets, tallying a three-round total of 289 for 26th place after a 96 on Sunday. Sophomore Mari Najar followed Mercer at 293 (94-96-103) to tie for 29th in the 48-player field.
DC's 2020-21 roster consisted of one junior, two sophomores and a pair of freshmen.
