DEFIANCE, OHIO - Sophomore Taylor Biggs (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) pitched a gem through six complete innings in a game two victory of a double header with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Anderson on Wednesday afternoon at Sal Hench Field that led to a split with the Ravens.
Defiance plated four runs on nine hits to a game two, 4-0 victory. The Purple and Gold dropped game one, 7-3.
In game two, senior Michaela Bauer (Hicksville) deemed clutch as she scored the games first two runs off a home run in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Brooke Gostomsky (Dayton/Covington) opened the inning with a lead off walk before a sacrafice bunt from freshman Kalin Hubble (Anderson, Ind.) advanced Gostomsky to scoring position. Bauer would provide the timely hit as she homered to left center giving DC the 2-0 advantage.
The Purple and Gold added two insurance runs in the fourth inning led by senior Jackie Hartman (Parma/Padua Franciscan). Hartman singled to left field before stealing second base. Freshman Sophie Moller (Pickerington/North) scored Hartman on the next at bat as she hit a shot to third base that would score the innings first run for the Jackets, 3-0. Biggs, not only got it done in the circle but also at the dish as she advanced Moller to third on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Jordan Osborne (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) plated the games final run on a single to center field en route to the 4-0 victory.
Biggs secured the remainder of the game in the circle as she pitched a one hit shut out to capture her fourth win of the season.
Anderson claimed the lead early in game one as they plated two runs in the top of the third before Defiance responded. The offense came alive for DC in the bottom of the sixth inning as a Ravens miscue placed Bauer on first. She would later score as Moller singled to right scoring pinch runner senior Ely King (Mechanicsburg) and placing a Defiance runner on third base. Sophomore Hali Geraci (Springboro) scored the Yellow Jackets final run of the contest with a double down the left field line to give the Purple and Gold the 3-2 advantage.
However, Anderson responded in the top half of the seventh inning plating five runs for the 7-3 victory.
The Purple and Gold return to action on Saturday, April 6 as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to take on Rose-Hulman.
