Softball Claims Exciting Double Header Split
ADRIAN, MICH. - The Yellow Jackets traveled to Adrian College for a non-conference match-up with the Bulldogs on Monday afternoon where DC split winning the night cap of the double header in extra innings, 12-9.

In the night cap, senior Jackie Hartman (Parma/Padua Franciscan) deemed clutch as she led off a six run fifth inning rally with a double to right center that set the stage for senior Jordan Osborne (Delaware/Ruther ford B. Hayes) who later scored Hartman, 1-0. With runners on second and third junior Brooke Gostomsky (Dayton/Covington) provided the timely hit as she singled to left center extending the Defiance lead to 2-0. Freshman Kalin Hubble (Anderson, Ind.) drew a walk on the next at bat that loaded the bases and scored freshman Makenzie Wilson (Haskins/Ostego) extending the score once more, 3-0.
The scoring continued as freshman Sophie Moller (Pikerington/North) reached first following an Adrian miscue that plated another Defiance run. Hartman would provided clutch again in the inning as she hit a single to left that scored the innings final run en route to the 6-0 lead.
The Bulldogs looked to rally back as they scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before DC responded. The Purple and the Gold plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning led by Nashalsky with a double to center field scoring the first two runs of the inning, 8-4. Sophomore Taylor Biggs (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) plated the innings last run as she singled to left field extending the Defiance lead to 9-4.
However, Adrian deemed clutch as they tied the contest in the bottom of the seventh as they plated five runs to force extra innings. The Yellow Jackets remained poise as they scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to capture the 12-9 victory.
Freshman Zoe Doll (MMinford) captured the win in the circle for DC as she went 1.1 innings, only allowing two hits.
Adrian claimed the opener 4-2 behind the pitching staff of Paige Cubberly.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, March 27 as they travel to Albion, Mich.
