CLERMONT, FLORIDA - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets moved to 2-2 overall on the season as they split on day two of the Spring Games defeating Bates 3-0 and falling to Bridgewater 10-6.
Freshman Kalin Hubble (Anderson, Ind.) led the Yellow Jackets against Bates as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while sophomore Emma Perry (Bowling Green/Otsego) tallied two RBI.
The Defiance defense set the tone early in the contest as senior, pitcher, Rachel Wehrman (Fort Loramie/Minster) had a three-up, three-down first inning before junior Arianna Richards (Covington) robbed a Bates homerun in the bottom of the second that set the stage for the Purple and Gold.
The Yellow Jackets tallied their first run of the contest in the top of the third inning as Perry delivered a sacrifice bunt that scored Hubble, 1-0. Defiance added another run in the top of the fourth as junior Brooke Gostomsky (Dayton/Covington) crossed the plate following a Bates pitching error, 2-0.
The Purple and Gold scored their final run of the contest in the fifth inning as Perry doubled to center field, scoring Richards, 3-0.
Wehrman claimed the complete game shutout, allowing just two hits.
Defiance, in it's Sunday opener, was led by Perry going 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Bridgewater struck first in the contest when Perry responded for Defiance hitting a homerun in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1.
The homerun frenzy continued for the Purple and Gold as Hubble and freshman Makenzie Wilson (Haskins/Otsego) both recorded their first career homerun on back-to-back at bats tying the contest in the bottom of the second inning, 3-3.
However, Bridgewater deemed to much as they tacked on three runs in the third, followed by two in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to win the contest.
Defiance returns to action on Monday, March 4 as they take on Lebanon Valley at 4 p.m., followed by Otterbein at 6:15 p.m.
