Markau crowned 400 meter dash champion at HCAC Outdoor Championships
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Senior sprinter Lisa-Maria Markau won the 400 meter dash championship as the Yellow Jackets competed at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Championships this weekend at Manchester University. In total, the Yellow Jackets had three athletes named All-HCAC.
The DC women placed seventh out of 10and earned 29 points. The DC men earned 14 points and finished ninth out of nine teams. The Manchester University men and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women were crowned the team champions.
The championship performance by Markau landed her on the First Team HCAC All-Conference. Lisa-Maria won the 100 meter prelims, but placed fifth in the finals with a time of 13.17 seconds. In the 200 meters, she placed second.
Aliza Clark placed 11th in the 200 meter prelims with a time of 28.91 seconds, a new personal best and placed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles finals. Shelby Clements earned a new personal best in the 400 meter dash, finishing sixth in the prelims with a time of 1:04.09 and finished fourth in the finals competition.
Gavin Maratea placed 22nd in the finals of the javelin with a throw of 27.86 meters. Jeremiah Benton placed 19th in the 400 meter dash prelims with a time of 59.12 seconds. In the finals of the 400 meter hurdles, Montgomery Rollins and Tawon Cannon placed second and third, respectively. The second place finish for Rollins earned him a spot on the Second Team HCAC All-Conference and Cannon's third place finish earned himself a spot on the Honorable Mention HCAC All-Conference Team.
