Heidelburg and Clements earn personal bests at Panther Invite
ATLANTA, Ga. - The Defiance College track and field teams closed out their spring break trip yesterday afternoon (Mar. 9) at the Clark Atlanta University Panther Classic. The men placed 15th out of 20 teams and the women placed 17th out of 19. Both David Heidelburg and Shelby Clements recorded personal bests in the meet.
Defiance's four team points came from a fifth place finish by Lisa-Maria Markau in the 100 meter dash. Shelby Clements set personal bests in both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Clements took five seconds off her best in the 100 meter dash and 11 seconds off her best in the 200 meter dash. Myahn Smith competed in the javelin throw for the first time and placed eighth with a mark of 24.03m (78'10").
In the 400 meter hurdle, Tawon Cannon placed second with a time of 55.90 seconds. Montgomery Rollins competed in the 400 meter hurdles for the first time and placed eighth with a time of 59.02 seconds. Gavin Maratea placed 24th in the javelin throw with a mark of 28.12m (92'3"). David Heidelburg set a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 9.75m (32'0"), besting his previous by .17 meters.
The Yellow Jackets are off next weekend and will next compete at the Berea College Mountaineer Open on Saturday, March 23.
