Men's Golf picked eighth in HCAC preseason poll
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced the results of the 2022 Men’s Golf preseason poll, with the Yellow Jackets placed eighth out of nine teams.
CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced the results of the 2022 Men's Golf preseason poll, with Transylvania University picked to finish on top in a vote among league coaches. The Yellow Jackets placed eighth out of nine teams.
The Pioneers claimed five first-place nods in route to their 70 points for first place. Franklin College was picked to finish second, with two first-place votes and 66 points. In a close third the defending champions, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned one first-place vote and 64 points. Hanover College (46) and Earlham College (45) rounded out the top-half of the pole in fourth and fifth place respectively. Defiance finished eighth with 22 points.
Freshman Spencer Clingaman was named to the HCAC Athlete to Watch list. During the fall season, Clingaman shot an average of 81.33 and had a low round of 71. Clingaman was the top finisher for Defiance at two events and placed first in the Polar Bear Classic with a score of 71. At the HCAC Preview, he tied for 22nd overall.
Clingaman and the Yellow Jackets will begin the spring season at the Pioneer Classic at Lakeside Golf Course in Beverly, Ohio. The event will be hosted by Marietta College.
