Men’s Golf Places Sixth in DC Fall Invitational
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Brian Jones turned in DC’s top score for the third time in as many events this fall, shooting an 80 to tie for ninth in the seven-team Defiance Fall Invitational on Sunday.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Brian Jones turned in DC's top score for the third time in as many events this fall, shooting an 80 to tie for ninth in the seven-team Defiance Fall Invitational on Sunday. The Jackets fired a 330 to end in sixth place in the highly competitive tournament at Kettenring Country Club.
Northwestern Ohio claimed the team title by carding a 319, while Trine (324), Ohio Northern (326), Rochester (328), Tiffin (329), DC (330) and Lourdes (341) followed in the standings. The individual standings were just as tight, with Tiffin's Phil Patten winning a five-hole playoff against ONU's Phil Makowski for medalist honors.
Defiance had four players finish among the top 15 on the leaderboard, with Gehring finishing one stroke back of Jones and in a tie for 12th and Jace Neal and Jared James each shooting an 82 to tie for 13th.
The Jackets will close out their 2010 fall season on October 2, when they compete in the Manchester Invitational.
