Wilson and Gilmer Earn Player of the Week Honors
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College football players Cody Wilson (McComb) and Keandre Gilmer (Toledo/Rogers) have been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive "Players of the Week."
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College football players Cody Wilson (McComb) and Keandre Gilmer (Toledo/Rogers) have been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive "Players of the Week."
Wilson recorded his second straight 100-yard rushing game with 129 yards on 17 carries (7.6 yards per rush) and scored twice in Defiance's win against Bluffton University this past Saturday. His 129 rushing yards were also a game-high and his second 100-yard game of his career. In addition, he caught three passes for 24 yards.
Wilson ends the season with 271 total yards on the ground and also caught team-highs of 42 receptions for 401 yards. He scored a total of six touchdowns (four rushing and two receiving) to finish in a tie for the team-lead in scoring with 36 points. Wilson also finishes third in all-purpose yards with 706 (271 rushing, 401 receiving and 34 kick return yards).
Gilmer turned in a career performance against the Beavers with a career-high three interceptions, tying the DC single-game record. Gilmer's first two interceptions led to a pair of touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets in the game. He also had a game-high nine tackles (all solo), including a tackle for loss.
Gilmer ends the 2016 season with a team and career-best 83 tackles (51 solo and 32 assists). He recorded three games of 10 or more tackles, including back-to-back games of a career-high 14 stops. Gilmar also posted career-highs in interceptions (three), sacks (four) and pass breakups (five). Gilmer tallied 11.5 tackles for loss, forced a fumble and also had a fumble recovery.
