Baseball swept by Wittenberg on the road

The Defiance baseball team was defeated twice by Wittenberg on Wednesday evening.

Game 1

Inside The Numbers

• Senior Nate Kaffenbarger went 3-4 with a double.
• Freshman Gunner Gregg went 2-3 with a double.
• Freshman Jacob Hild doubled and drove in two runs.
• Freshman Logan Kunkel took the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
• Jack Siefert went 3-4 and drove in four runs for Wittenberg.
• Dylan Jackson, Conor O'Malley, Chase Whisner, and Siefert each homered.
• Charlie Schafer picked up the win for the Tigers.

The Difference

• The Yellow Jackets got on the board first thanks to a two-run double from Hild in the top of the second.
• The Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the second off a Whisner solo home run and added five runs in the bottom of the third.
• Wittenberg scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and five in the sixth inning.

Game 2

Inside The Numbers

• Sophomore Trent Murdock drove in two runs.
• Sophomore Billy McNamara also drove in a run.
• Hild doubled.
• Freshman Tyler Sickmiller was saddled with the loss.
• Siefert drove in four runs for the Tigers.
• Lane Johnson went 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
• Whisner had three hits and drove in two runs.
• Nate Floyd and Justin Maynard each threw three innings and Maynard picked up the win.

The Difference

• The Tigers scored two runs in the second off a home run by Johnson.
• Murdock tied the game in the fourth with a single up the middle and McNamara gave Defiance the lead with a single to left-center.
• The DC lead of short-lived as Wittenberg scored six runs in the bottom of the inning.
• The Tigers scored three more runs in the sixth inning.
