No. 13 Manchester Too Much For Yellow Jackets in Home Finale
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College baseball team played its final home game of the 2013 season on Tuesday afternoon. The Jackets hosted the No. 13 team in the nation in Manchester and the visitors proved worthy of their ranking by winning cruising to a 17-1 victory.

The Spartans took control of the game from the opening inning. Manchester plated nine runs in the first, highlighted by a grand slam from Kyle Norris to give the away team a commanding 9-0 advantage.
Defiance scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI double from senior Jonathan Murphy. The double scored Ben Weber, the only Yellow Jacket to record two hits in the game. Murphy's RBI made the score 9-1 after five.
The Purple and Gold pitching staff recorded five-straight innings of scoreless baseball from the second through sixth inning. Then in the seventh, eighth and ninth the Spartans added eight more runs to go on to win 17-1.
With the defeat, DC's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record moves to 11-10. The Yellow Jackets wrap up its regular season this weekend with a big series against Transylvania that will dictate which team qualifies for the postseason tournament.
Defiance is currently a half game back of Transylvania for the fourth and final spot in the HCAC Tournament. Game one of the three game series is slated to start on Friday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
