Waterman came within two outs of tossing his second complete game of the season and notched his first win on the bump against HCAC competition on Friday against the Grizzlies. The Celina, Ohio native went 7.1 innings and allowed just one run, while striking out five in the extra-inning affair. After yielding the only FC run of the game in the third inning, Waterman did not allow a runner past second base over his final 4.1 innings of work.
Waterman currently leads all Yellow Jacket starting pitchers with a 3.90 earned-run average, 33 strikeouts and a .244 batting average against. The sophomore righty ranks among the HCAC's finest in strikeouts per nine innings.
The HCAC honor is the first for Waterman, who joined Brad Kremer as the second Yellow Jacket to be recognized by the HCAC this season.
The Jackets will get back in action on Monday evening at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, when they host Manchester College at 7:00 pm.
