The Polar Bears broke through for three runs in the second, fifth and ninth innings for their nine-run total and collected 10 hits on the game. Defiance scratched across single tallies in the third, seventh and ninth but failed to capitalize on numerous other potential rallies.
Brad Timofeev and Phil Kosier led the way offensively for the Yellow Jackets as Timofeev went 3-4 with two runs batted in and Kosier was 2-4 with one RBI. Kirk Jesse, Tim Pitro and Mike Hill all scored once in the game.
Ohio Northern sent six different pitchers to the mound, with J.C. Valentour (3-2) getting credit for the victory after working two scoreless innings in relief.
Dustin Zizelman (1-3) took the loss for the Jackets after allowing six earned runs in 4.1 innings of work. Nick Picciano struck out two batters in 1.2 scoreless innings and Cameron Cunert shut down ONU in the seventh and eighth before getting touched for three in the ninth.
Defiance (6-13) will be back in action this Friday at Rose-Hulman.
