Cross wins two conference titles, named Most Outstanding Sprinter at HCAC Indoor Championship
Defiance freshman Traci Cross was named the Women’s Most Outstanding Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year at the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships after winning the 60-meters and 200-meters.
Defiance freshman Traci Cross was named the Women's Most Outstanding Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year at the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships after winning the 60-meters and 200-meters. The Yellow Jackets placed sixth out of the 10 teams in the conference.
The Basics
- The event was hosted at the George M. Smart Center in Defiance, Ohio.
- Manchester took the conference championship with 176.50 points.
- Defiance placed sixth with 42 points.
Notable Performances
- Cross set a school and conference record in the 60-meters with a time of 7.85 seconds, besting the previous mark of 7.87 seconds set by Micah Wilson in 2014.
- Senior Katelyn Smith tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.36m.
- Senior Lisa Markau placed fifth in the 60-meters with a time of 8.13 seconds. Markau had the third-fastest time in the prelims with 8.07 seconds, a personal best.
- Markau also placed fifth in the 200-meters with a time of 27.61 seconds.
- The 4x200 relay team of junior Destiny Oshodin, Markau, Smith, and Cross placed fourth with a time of 1:52.33.
- Freshman Alexandria Ausmus placed fifth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:32.31.
- The 4x400 relay team of Smith, Markau, Cross, and Ausmus finished sixth with a time of 4:30.83.
