Williams Wins Hammer Throw to Lead Women's Track

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track and field team wrapped up the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets placed ninth out of 10 teams, ahead of Mount St. Joseph. Rose-Hulman won their first HCAC title in program history, followed by Manchester and Hanover.
Defiance was led by senior Hannah Williams (Swanton), who brought home an HCAC Championship with a toss of 47.29 meters (155 feet, 2 inches), as Williams won the first HCAC title of her career with a toss that was 0.01 meters shy of her personal best.
Senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) added a sixth-place mark in the hammer with a throw of 44.29 meters (145 feet, 4 inches) to wrap up her final HCAC Championship meet of her career.
The DC throwers also added a sixth place finish from senior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North), whose best toss was 31.61 meters (103 feet, 8 inches), a personal best.
Switching to the jumps, freshman Meagan Trimpey (Bowling Green) added a season-best in the long jump to her personal-best in the pole vault on Friday, as her jump of 4.87 meters (16 feet) qualified her for finals and gave her a sixth-place finish.
On the track, freshman Olivia Fett (Defiance), who used a great race on Friday to qualify for the finals in the 800-meter run, placed in the eighth spot on Saturday with a time of 2:38.85.
The girls 4x100 meter relay scored a point on the track, as well, as the team of senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial), Trimpey, senior Laura Lutzke (Williamston, Mich.), and freshman Mackenzie Moehrman (Deshler/Patrick Henry) placed eighth with a time of 52.86 seconds, a season-best for that group.
The Yellow Jackets will kick off last chance meet season on Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4 as several athletes are set to compete at the University of Toledo Invitational.
